Sudachi needs exactly the same thing as its relatives — one valid prod.keys file — but it checks a single path with no portable-mode variation, so setup finishes in about a minute. This page keeps the instructions short to match.
Download prod keys for Sudachi
The current release, v23.0.0, covers every key generation from v16.1.0 upward, so it also " "boots older titles. One file serves sudachi and every other emulator on your machine.
Sudachi install paths
Place the file at the location below. The filename must be exactly prod.keys — a trailing "
".txt is the most common reason an emulator reports no keys at all.
Where Sudachi looks for prod.keys
%APPDATA%/sudachi/keys/~/.local/share/sudachi/keys/Internal Storage/Sudachi/keys/Installing keys in Sudachi, step by step
- Download the current
prod.keysfrom the homepage download table. - Copy it into the destination for your platform from the table above.
- Create the
keysfolder if it does not exist — Sudachi does not always create it for you. - Relaunch Sudachi. It re-reads keys on every start, so no import step is needed.
- Install firmware 16.1.0 or newer for commercial titles — see the firmware guide.
Errors Sudachi prints, and what they mean
| Message | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Encryption keys are missing” | The file is not where the table above says it should be. | Check for a doubled extension such as prod.keys.txt first. |
| “Firmware not found” | Keys are fine; no firmware was ever installed. | Follow the firmware guide. |
| A single game fails to decrypt | The keys are older than that release. | Refresh them from the download table. |
| Keys vanish after reinstalling the app | Android clears the app folder on uninstall. | Keep a backup copy in your Downloads folder. |
What makes Sudachi different
One path, no surprises
Unlike Ryujinx, Sudachi has no separate system folder and no portable-mode variation. The path in the table is the only place it checks, which makes it the easiest emulator to diagnose.
Precise error strings
Sudachi names the cause more precisely than most emulators — “encryption keys are missing” and “firmware not found” are genuinely distinct failures, so triage is quick.
Small footprint
Sudachi keeps a deliberately reduced feature surface, so it installs and updates quickly. For a broader feature set see Suyu or Eden.
How Sudachi compares to other emulators
The same prod.keys file you use here also works in every other Switch emulator, so a clean "
"install here means the rest of your setup is ready too. Key strictness, firmware dependency and platform "
"support are compared side by side in the emulator compatibility "
"guide, and the installation guide lists every folder for "
"every emulator in one table.
