Citron emulator

Citron Prod Keys — Download & Install prod.keys

Citron trades some accuracy for speed and keeps its own data directories — an existing Yuzu install does not help it, but the prod.keys file is identical.

Citron is a Yuzu-line fork that leans heavily into Android and low-end Windows hardware. Keys are not a Citron-specific concept: it reads the standard prod.keys file like every other Switch emulator, and the only thing that changes is where that file lives.

The current release, v23.0.0, covers every key generation from v16.1.0 upward, so it also " "boots older titles. One file serves citron and every other emulator on your machine.

Citron install paths

Place the file at the location below. The filename must be exactly prod.keys — a trailing " ".txt is the most common reason an emulator reports no keys at all.

Installing keys in Citron, step by step

  1. Close Citron completely first — desktop builds read the keys folder only at startup.
  2. Create the keys folder inside Citron's own data directory if it does not exist yet.
  3. Copy prod.keys in and confirm the name carries no extra extension.
  4. Reopen Citron. There is no import dialog to click through — detection is automatic.
  5. Install firmware for commercial games — Citron supports firmware 16.1.0 through v23.0.0.

Errors Citron prints, and what they mean

MessageWhat it meansFix
“Missing encryption keys”Citron words it differently but it means no readable prod.keys at the path it checked.Work through filename, then folder, then version.
Keys are older than the gameA dump older than the title you are launching fails exactly like a missing one.A fresh file from the download table resolves both cases at once.
Duplicate downloads renamed to prod.keys(1)Citron silently ignores anything that is not named prod.keys.Delete the duplicates.
Android loses access after a rebootThe keys folder sits on a removable or scoped path.Use Internal Storage/Sudachi — Citron's own folder — rather than an SD card path.

What makes Citron different

Own data directories

Citron keeps separate folders from Yuzu and Suyu, so migrating means copying the file again. The format is shared, so you can copy the same file to all three without editing it.

Built for weaker hardware

Citron is optimised for speed on low-end desktops and phones. If a specific game needs maximum accuracy, Ryujinx is the better target.

Firmware range

Most commercial games require both prod keys and matching firmware. Citron supports firmware versions from 16.1.0 through the current release — see the firmware guide.

How Citron compares to other emulators

The same prod.keys file you use here also works in every other Switch emulator, so a clean " "install here means the rest of your setup is ready too. Key strictness, firmware dependency and platform " "support are compared side by side in the emulator compatibility " "guide, and the installation guide lists every folder for " "every emulator in one table.
